Summary:
1. We need to find a way to involve a couple more people in the UI discussions.
2. The Athena Office Suite effort is moving forward. It's moving off
the AUI list. The players and structure of the effort are a little
different from what I expected, but it looks like it will be fine.
Detail:
Today at Owls, I gave people the heads up about the Virtual locker
thing, but I didn't call it that. I paraphrased the message you saw.
Oliver Thomas asked "Are the AUI Discovery Team members in the loop on
this?".
I think the auidt members may have been invited to join the aui list in
the past. The people on auidt who are not on aui are: ajfox, aurora,
boojum, zacheiss. Most of these folks are interested in UI discussions
but not about technical minutae. Is there some way we can have one list
for technical minutae, and one for exchange of ideas on UI issues? My
first thought is to re-purpose auidt. What do you folks think?
We then talked about the efforts surrounding the "Microsoft Office on
Athena Question". My personal feeling is that a formal Discovery
Project should be formed around this, but for some reason Naomi Schmidt,
and others around the table at Owls prefer an effort done by Owls with a
few additional invitees that would follow the mini-Discovery track.
The bottom line here is: YES there is gonna be an effort to answer the
question, "What functionalities, and with what priorities need to be
implemented for successful remedy of 'Athena is bad because it doesn't
run Microsoft Office.'?"
At this point the preference by people on the Owls side, who would be
doing a fair bit of the non-implementation work is that the team should
consist of Beland who is doing the technical work, Richard Garcia, Alex
Prengel, and a subset of Owls, and maybe some of the folks on the ole
aui Discovery Team.
I promised to forward to ajfox and othomas the notes that Beland sent
around on this topic so they can see that effort has been going along
the right principles. I'm going to send a note to owls, and apse
introducting the players, and highlighting the salient points of
Beland's work. Most importantly that will move the Office Suite stuff
OFF the aui list.
