I looked at hello-unity. It does tell us very nicely how to add
quicklists to the launcher, but only while the app is running. I don't
think we need a Python app to maintain the software menu. Upstream has
decided that you should just hit the Windows key and start typing, e.g.
"MATLAB" which totally works. This is foreign and scary to us, but is
exactly how undergrads are used to launching MATLAB on their Windows 7
machine.
We should, however, prioritize #581.
