I would say that for purposes of posting a handful of .debs privately,
it doesn't particularly matter what you specify as the distribution;
the only places it goes are changelog.Debian.gz, which is purely
informational, and the .changes file summarizing build results, which
is mainly relevant to formal archiving tools.
In particular, I'd go with specifying unstable and disregarding
warnings about such from Ubuntu versions of Lintian.
