Hmm, do we have 32-bit machines to test things like this on?
The deployed clusters are all 64-bit, of course ... how about the test 
cluster(s)?  It looks like opus in the SIPB office is 32-bit, so that 
should be enough for Geoff or me to test such a change pre-commit, I 
guess.
