Hi everyone -
On April 18, 2009, Ubuntu will stop supporting Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy
Gibbon. As we have with previous Ubuntu releases, we will be
desupporting Debathena on Gutsy at the same time. Any remaining users of
Gutsy are encouraged to upgrade by that date, as Ubuntu typically
removes releases from their apt repositories when a release reaches its
end of life, making it difficult to upgrade to a newer release.
Ubuntu only supports direct upgrades from Gutsy to Ubuntu 8.04 LTS
Hardy. Instructions for that process are available at
<https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HardyUpgrades>. If you would like to
upgrade to Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid, you should first upgrade to Hardy and
then upgrade to Intrepid.
We are also taking this opportunity to end Debathena support for Ubuntu
6.06 LTS Dapper Drake. Dapper is the oldest release that we currently
support by almost a year, and it is showing its age. It lacks many
features which have made Debathena functionality easy to develop, or in
some cases, possible to develop. Furthermore, to the best of our
knowledge, nobody has run Debathena on Dapper since September.
Therefore, we will be ending support for Debathena Dapper on April 18th,
at the same time as Gutsy.
At this point, Ubuntu only currently supports upgrading from Dapper to
Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Hardy. Instructions for upgrading Dapper can also be
found at <https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HardyUpgrades>.
As always feel free to contact the Debathena team at debathena@mit.edu
if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.
Thanks,
- Evan
