I'm very glad to announce that as of 01:44 tonight, XVM's big
procedure to expand our capacity in Linux LVM is complete, all the
components of the system have been put back to normal, and each of
you can once again freely create new VMs on the service.
So make your way back to
https://xvm.mit.edu/
and start putting XVM to all the uses you've been holding back.
Many of you received mail from us once or more explaining that your
machines had been restarted due to complications in this process.
We take our service's availability very seriously, and we regret each
of those reboots.
We're aware of several distinct bugs in Linux, LVM, and Xen that
caused those failures, and we intend to pursue each of them upstream.
We also learned practices by which we could have avoided some of these
bugs or diminished their impact, and which we will apply in any future
operations and to avoid entirely any future operations quite like this.
