Crashing to desktop on Ubuntu 14.04 workstation

Hi,
I am trying to setup debathena inside of a vmware Ubuntu 14.04 VM. I
install the workstation install. When I reboot I get the debathena
graphical login screen. However, after I login it loads up the desktop, and
then instantly crashes back to the debathena graphical login screen.
Can you let me know how to fix this?
