Hi Chris -
alpine is a complete rewrite of pine, but is released under a more
generally acceptable license, which has caused it to be incorporated
into recently Debian and Ubuntu distributions. It should largely be a
drop-in replacement for pine.
We have heard a few reports of issues, though. Would you mind letting us
read your pine settings file to see if there are any indications of the
problem in there? You can do that by running:
mv ~/.pinerc ~/Public/pinerc
ln -s ~/Public/pinerc ~/.pinerc
That should let you hold on to your customizations while allowing us to
see the file.
