Hi everybody -
We're still chugging along with our LVM rearrangements, but we
seem to have hit a few snags. The LVM utilities on one of our servers
is hanging unkillably and the Xen daemon on another seems to be
hanging as well.
It's possible that we could recover from this with limited downtime
for only some users and try to continue, but we're concerned that this
would have a negative impact on the ongoing stability of the service.
Therefore, at 10 PM tonight, we will be having a total cluster
restart, which will result in downtime for all XVM users. We will
attempt to shut down paravirtualized machines (e.g. autoinstalled VMs)
cleanly, but if you're concerned about your VM going down cleanly, you
should bring it down yourself.
Ideally, the outage should last no longer than 30 minutes, but we're
reserving the window between 10 PM and midnight to complete the
maintenance.
We're very disappointed that we have to resort to this, we're sorry
about the short notice, and we apologize for the inconvenience.
After this reboot, we will be continuing the LVM shuffling we were
working on previously, so you may continue to experience some disk
slowness.
