Problems with ubuntu 8.04 (HELP!)

Dear deb,
I am having problems trying to initialise / 'get to work' debathena on
my unbuntu 8.04 machine. He are some of the error messages I have received:
ned@ned-eeepc:~$ add matlab
Cannot attach locker on /mit:

It may well be that I have incorrectly installed debathena. If you think
you could help me with this or with reinstalling the program, I would be
very grateful if you could find a spare moment to help me in person.
