Hello everyone,
Here is a pointer to documents for the Athena Backup System (ABS).
Please let me know if you have any trouble accessing them...from an
Athena workstation you should
			attach athena-backup
and you'll find the documents in /mit/athena-backup/doc/draft
Diane has written the following summary for you....thanks all, and we're
looking forward to our next meeting with you!
					Anne

abs-overview.ps - about 20-25 pages, size is about 1/4 meg

high level overview of system (some things
have changed since then, but it still gives
a good idea of how the system will work and
there's some brief mention about why we went with
an RDBMS instead of a hacked-up dbm.)

abs-master.ps - 97 pages, size is ~1meg

low level design for the master process
sections 1-11 give an overview of all the
main tasks the master handles. Read as
               much as you can tolerate..

8.1 talks about dumpsets and how server based
dumpsets are synched up with AFS. More
               about vldb synchronization in 16.3

section 17 and 18 talk briefly about the RDBMS
and mention that there are outstanding issues
                waiting to be resolved.

Appendix A lists the RDBMS tables for the ABS.

Sections 13-15 are very lengthy descriptions
of all of the functions in the server interface.
I don't think that it's necessary to read these
                sections.
