After ACMG yesterday, Jeff, Roger, and I got together in the Small
Conference Room and held the summit meeting as mentioned in my 10 June
Status report. We have decided how to proceed.
Jeff stated two criteria that should govern the ABS project:
"Prove that the system works."
"Make sure the system can be repaired by someone other than its inventors."
(These are criteria that the ABS team believes in too.)
Jeff has said that the database abstraction layer does not have to be written.
Instead he will do a code review and a functional test himself.
Roger, Jeff, and I agree that Jeff has valid contributions to make by
doing a functional test and code review so that the ABS meets the two
primary criteria that Jeff stated (and that we agree are good ones.)
Roger, Jeff, and I also agree that the ABS team and Jeff need to work
together in a more collaborative way in the future.
----
How do we proceed?
The ABS team continues working on the Test Plan, the Crippled Mode
implementation, and on reviewing and improving the maintainability of
the code.
I have asked Tom Coppeto to help us look at the code to make sure we are
pursuing the right approaches to making the code maintainable. So that
Jeff will approve of the code when he reviews it.
Everyone -- The ABS team members, Jeff, and others we work with are
charged with keeping an eye out for potential risks, for testing risky
areas, and in formulating appropriate solutions TOGETHER.
(Special thanks to those who gave their time in preparing for this meeting.)
