huh?

this was in the initial requirements doc--the idea was that you should
be able to ask the backup system what volumes/tapedrives/etc. it
"believes" there are--what is its "view of the world"?

this is to allow you to compare with the actual reality.  for example,
if the system thinks there are one too many or one too few
tapedrives--we have a problem.  Or if it thinks there is an active
tape when observation shows there isn't one...
