As Derek mentions, Zephyr can be used with or without Kerberos
(Project Athena's authentication system) or Hesiod (name service),
though the Kerberos and non-Kerberos versions are probably not
compatible.

It has been ported to a number of platforms. We started with BSD on
Vax and IBM RT/PC workstations, and have ported it to Ultrix on Vax
and MIPS systems. Other sites have run it on Suns of various types,
NeXT machines, and probably some others. (I haven't done any sort of
survey at this point.)

It has been ported to the Macintosh under A/UX, though the changes
haven't been integrated into the release version yet, and one or two
Zephyr programs for MacOS are in the works. (I hope to have both in a
new version available at the end of this month.) To my knowledge, no
one has worked on using Zephyr from an IBM PC at this point in time.

If you are interested in picking up Zephyr and/or getting onto the
list for announcements of new versions, please let me know. For other
information about Project Athena, you can contact info-athena@mit.edu.
