I think that thinking of everything as multiple windows per message
or whatever is incorrect.  It is obvious that we need to support multiple
output schemes.  Perhaps we should have some kind of "buffering"
commands to put the output into a buffer which could then
be flushed to a device (perhaps several times) and then cleared.
This way, dkk could set up the message he wants for X, flush it to
the display, clear the buffer, set it up for ttymode, flush it, clear
the buffer, set it up for a logging file, then flush it to the file.
This needs a little work, but I think it provides all the versatility
anyone needs.
