i didn't have access to an empty directory in AFS to try this with,
so I did:
11:33am:shadow@johnstown:shadow:87> /bin/rm -rf ~/*
11:46am:shadow@johnstown:shadow:88> zctl sub "nuke-cmu * *"   

and it worked.
