Sigh. Okay, the problem here is in libcom_err, and is specific to
Solaris. (On the NetBSD/i386 Athena port, for instance, I get "znol:
No such file or directory while getting WindowGram port.") In order
to fix a bug in discuss where the discuss client was passing a null
string to ss_perror(), the people in rel-eng modified the hesiod
library to special-case Solaris and not print the explanatory string
argument to com_err() unless the error number passed in is 0 (which is
almost never the case). So under Solaris, com_err() error messages
are usually not very helpful. Naturally, it would have been better to
fix the discuss client.

I have reported this bug to rel-eng in the past, along with the proper
fix for the discuss client, but it does not seem to be fixed in the
Athena source tree. I assume they haven't gotten to it yet.

(If this were a bug in znol, I could fix it right now, but we don't,
alas, have a zephyr-current, so the 1E3 users would have to wait for
the next Athena release to get the fix.)
