Problem building Zephyr on Sunos 4.1.x

Hi there,
I am wondering if anyone has had success building Zephyr on Sunos
4.1.x. I cannot get past the "make makefiles" or "make depend" steps.
It appears that the makefiles are incorrect or incompatible with Sun
make -and- Gnu Make (tried both).
I get errors like:
### Making Makefile in /export/home1/zephyr/src/zwgc
rm -f Makefile.bak; mv Makefile Makefile.bak
/usr/local/openwin3/bin/xview/imake -I.././config -DNEW_TOP=../. -s Makefile
make: Fatal error in reader: Makefile, line 269: Unexpected end of line seen
Current working directory /export/home1/zephyr/src/zwgc
*** Error code 1
make: Fatal error: Command failed for target `Makefiles'
Where line 269 and following looks like:
normal_obj_rule()
program($(OUTPUT),$(OBJECTS),,$(LIBS),$(USRETCDIR))
Also, it does not know how to "make depend" in any subdirectory when
using "make world" at the top level source tree.
If anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate it, or at least let me know
if: it's impossible, you don't know, or whatever. :-)
