logout problem

I have zephyr compiled and installed our DECstation5000's...
when I do a zstat I get:

my problem is this if I:
login as myself and perform a zwgc,
then login as root and perform a zwgc,
then logoff as root,
zlocate still shows that root is logged on.
in other worlds, zephyr doesn't seem to know when I logout unless I kill the process
I am running 4.2BSD ULTRIX
any suggestions?
