Truthout was a union publication long before the workers at Salon, Gawker and Vice decided to organize. In 2009, we became the first online news organization to hold a "virtual card check" and our staff is currently represented by the United Media Guild, a strong local union within The Newspaper Guild-Communications Workers of America.
It's my job to fight for transparency and question the status quo in my reporting. I'm proud to be a member of a union with a rich history of fighting for transparency and the rights of journalists who question that status quo, just as I am proud to work for a truly progressive publication that has always been ahead of the curve.
As a Truthout staff reporter, I'm free to write stories you would never find in the mainstream media, because we refuse to take corporate advertising dollars.
