http://www.truth-out.org/opinion/item/31663-arizona-the-supreme-court-and-t=
he-end-of-gerrymandering
William Rivers Pitt, Truthout: The Supreme Court's ruling in Arizona State =
Legislature v. Arizona Independent Redistricting stands a solid chance of t=
hwarting the manipulation of district lines by partisan politicians, and th=
at might just change everything.

http://www.truth-out.org/progressivepicks/item/31657-greenpeace-activists-r=
isked-harsh-imprisonment-in-russia-to-stop-arctic-drilling

How Ecuador Transitioned From 20th Century Neoliberalism to 21st Century So=
cialism
http://www.truth-out.org/opinion/item/31662-how-ecuador-transitioned-from-2=
0th-century-neoliberalism-to-21st-century-socialism
Jonas Gamso, Truthout: While Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa certainly d=
eserves credit for policies implemented by his administration, the role tha=
t changes in the international political economy have played in facilitatin=
g Ecuador's shift should not be overlooked.

Justice Alito Defends Lethal Injection Expert Who Did His Research on Drugs=
.com
http://www.truth-out.org/news/item/31669-justice-alito-defends-lethal-injec=
tion-expert-who-did-his-research-on-drugs-com
Annie Waldman, ProPublica: The recent Supreme Court decision on the subject=
of lethal injection poses an unfortunate question: What's more disturbing =
- an "expert" testifying before the Supreme Court having done their researc=
h on drugs.com, or a Supreme Court justice defending that "research"?

Meet the New GMO Mosquito: Millions Carrying the "Kill Switch Gene" Already=
 Released
http://www.truth-out.org/news/item/31664-meet-the-new-gmo-mosquito-millions=
-carrying-the-kill-switch-gene-already-released
Emerson Urry, EnviroNews: Until US legislators get involved and bring regul=
ations up to speed on the issue of releasing genetically modified animals i=
nto the open environment, companies will likely be able to continue using c=
itizens and the ecosystem as their test subjects.

After Marriage Equality and Obamacare, Mixed Results From SCOTUS on Abortio=
n, Pollution, Executions
http://www.truth-out.org/news/item/31676-after-marriage-equality-and-obamac=
are-mixed-results-from-scotus-on-abortion-pollution-executions
Amy Goodman and Juan Gonz=C3=A1lez, Democracy Now!: "This was a really anom=
alous term, not just in terms of the Roberts court's history, but in terms =
of the Supreme Court's entire history," says author and editor Ian Millhise=
r. Millhiser discusses the recent decisions and looks at pending rulings on=
 affirmative action and union dues.

http://www.truth-out.org/opinion/item/31666-free-marissa-now-and-stand-with=
-nan-hui-a-conversation-about-parallel-struggles
Alisa Bierria, Hyejin Shim, Mimi Kim and Emi Kane, The Feminist Wire: Maris=
sa Alexander and Nan-Hui Jo are two survivors of abuse that have been incar=
cerated after defending themselves. This interview looks at the common poli=
tical ties between two women of color surviving the intersections of domest=
ic violence, the US prison system and immigration control.

Greece Must Leave the Euro to Avoid Greater Misery From Austerity
http://www.truth-out.org/opinion/item/31659-greece-must-leave-the-euro-to-a=
void-greater-misery-from-austerity
Henry A. Giroux, The New York Times: Dumping the euro at least speaks to th=
e possibility of another choice, one that will be hopefully far more humane=
than the punishing strictures of the current politics of austerity inextri=
cably tied to an embrace of the euro.
=20
Greece Can't Afford to Leave the Euro, Though It Should
http://www.truth-out.org/opinion/item/31660-greece-can-t-afford-to-leave-th=
e-euro-though-it-should
C.J. Polychroniou, The New York Times: At this stage in the game, after fiv=
e years of deepening economic crisis, an exit from the euro carries enormou=
s risks. While Greece needs to leave the euro, it simply cannot afford to d=
o so, the author says in response to Henry A. Giroux.

I Am Not Dylann Roof's Woman
http://www.truth-out.org/opinion/item/31667-i-am-not-dylann-roof-s-woman
Laura Flanders, GRITtv: "Dylann Roof's claim to act in (white) women's defe=
nse is as old as white male supremacy itself. I am not Dylann Roof's woman.=
Racist, patriarchal violence does not make me safe. It divides me from peo=
ple I love and tells me real lies about who and what pose a real threat to =
my life."

Why Bree Newsome's Action Was the "Amazing Grace" I Needed
http://www.truth-out.org/opinion/item/31679-why-bree-newsome-s-action-was-t=
he-amazing-grace-i-needed
Tanya Steele, YES! Magazine: Bree Newsome, the activist who scaled a flagpo=
le to remove the South Carolina Capitol's Confederate flag, showed us that =
we liberate ourselves through our actions. She reminded us, in the midst of=
deep sorrow, that we, who want to see a better United States, must keep li=
ving, fighting, breathing and doing.

Before the Dawn: A Reflection on "Guant=C3=A1namo Diary"
http://www.truth-out.org/opinion/item/31674-before-the-dawn-a-reflection-on=
-the-guantanamo-diary
Kathy Kelly, Voices for Creative Nonviolence: "When I see the children adap=
t so readily to the schooling denied them, when I watch my young friends st=
ruggle eagerly to take the small steps allowed them, sowing seeds of mutual=
understanding or planting trees in Kabul, and when I read such grace and d=
ignity in the words of Mohamedou Ould Slahi after years of torture, I have =
to believe that a dawn will come."
=20
You, Too, Can Buy a Congressman!
http://www.truth-out.org/opinion/item/31678-you-too-can-buy-a-congressman
The Daily Take Team, The Thom Hartmann Program: Most people can't invest in=
buying politicians the same way as corporations and billionaires, but we c=
ould set up an exchange-traded fund for owning sellout politicians. That wa=
y, the average citizen can invest in politicians and reap the same benefits=
 as our country's lobbyists.

End US War-Making in Iraq and Syria
http://act.rootsaction.org/p/dia/action3/common/public/?action_KEY=3D11427
The United States has been waging war and imposing sanctions, training troo=
ps and selling and giving away weapons for far too long. Enough is enough. =
Saying "there is no military solution" is not sufficient while continuing t=
o attempt one, thereby making a bad situation worse. Urge Congress to block=
any funding for any US war-making in Iraq or Syria, and to insist on pursu=
ing an arms embargo, diplomacy and actual humanitarian aid.

A Note From Reporter Dahr Jamail

After my last Climate Disruption Dispatch article was published, I began re=
ceiving emails from people sharing their experiences with climatological ab=
errations they have been seeing where they live. Their experiences have ran=
ged from witnessing vanishing glaciers, to creeks that have never dried up =
now vanishing, to record temperatures, to extremely early harvesting season=
s for fruit. If you would like to send me information about what you're wit=
nessing, so that I might include it in a future report, please share your e=
xperience (and photos, if you have them) with me: dahr@truthout.org
