gan a war. A war whose bloody consequences would include the deaths of at l=
east 134,000 Iraqi civilians, with hundreds of thousands more wounded or le=
ft homeless, to say nothing of the torture, the legacy of violence and inst=
ability in the region, or the US veterans traumatized, wounded and then mor=
e or less abandoned.
Even before the invasion of Iraq, Truthout condemned the highly questionabl=
e WMD claims. Our condemnation of the invasion - and the work of reporters =
like Dahr Jamail, who dared to report the truth, "unembedded," from Iraq - =
stood in stark contrast to the complicit coverage of the mainstream media, =
the majority of whom were all too happy to disseminate propaganda on behalf=
of war profiteers.=20
We see this complicity again today in corporate media coverage (and lack of=
coverage), from Syria to Yemen, from Palestine to Iran and, yes, from Iraq=
to Afghanistan. Once again Truthout stands as an antidote to corrupt for-p=
