t r u t h o u t | If we as a society and as a species don't correct course, the future is bleak.
That's why, for me, it's so important that Truthout and BuzzFlash are not just about exposing problems. We also reveal the emerging possibilities and examples of concrete, positive change.
Take for instance our commentary on Oakland fifth graders who exposed how the food that they were served at school traveled 17,000 wasteful miles to get to their lunch plates. As a result, their findings contributed to a new policy that will emphasize buying more sustainable and nutritious locally grown food. A farm is even being set up by the school district to teach young people and community members about planting and harvesting fresh food in urban areas.
