I joked with a friend the other day that I unsubscribe from mailing lists, unlike Facebook pages and abandon news websites so often that there are very few left. The truth is that it's becoming increasingly difficult to find a news source that takes my time and support seriously.
These bad habits are sadly all too common in this industry. So a few basic facts are worth repeating, about what makes Truthout different from the rest.
- We don't rely on chasing scandals and we avoid sensationalist, misleading headlines.
- We publish stories that often fall below the radar of other news websites - in many cases involving issues affecting communities that the rest of the media ignores.
- We work from the assumption that our readers are smart people engaged with the world around you, with a voracious appetite for new information and the ability to handle complex new ideas.
- Truthout refuses to run ads or sponsored "advertorial" content on our site.
- We don't let corporations, political parties or anyone else send you emails. We don't sell, rent or lend your information to anyone.
