nts develop seemingly overnight. Most calls to action, however, take much l=
onger to come to fruition.
The modern environmental movement, as we know it, has been around for half =
a century, but as new issues arise awareness can be slow to grow.
Back in June 2010, Truthout's Mike Ludwig wrote about a blowout in a Clearf=
ield County, Pennsylvania gas well and the use of "fracking" to harvest gas=
. Since then, we've closely chronicled the devastating impact of fracking o=
n local communities and the battles of the growing anti-fracking movement.
The Oxford English Dictionary, seen by many as a symbol of mainstream accep=
tance of a word or term, added 'frack' in November 2013. Truthout played a =
key role in the process of creating awareness and putting the crisis of fra=
cking on the map.=20
