t r u t h o u t | Stop the presses! The CEO of ExxonMobil has become an ant=
i-fracking activist!

Well, sort of. Rex Tillerson is opposed to some construction near his subur=
ban estate in Denton County, Texas. It's a new water tower that would suppl=
y nearby oil and gas drilling. Apparently, the boss of the biggest natural =
gas producer in the country is worried about how fracking-related noise and=
traffic could impact the value of his property.

As Truthout's Mark Karlin observed in a BuzzFlash commentary yesterday, thi=
s is surely one of the most hypocritical examples on record of the attitude=
known as "NIMBY" - Not In My BackYard. It's also an example of one of the =
principles that has come to dominate the 21st century: There's one rule for=
the rich and for corporate CEOs, and another rule for the rest of us.

As a Truthout reader, we know you're concerned about what happens far beyon=
d your own backyard. You're compassionate enough to care about what happens=
to other people. You're also smart enough to understand that what happens =
far away can inevitably come back around to impact us all.

That compassion and understanding inform the reporting we publish at Trutho=
ut, whether from another continent or an otherwise ignored American neighbo=
rhood. Publishing this kind of journalism relies on your support: Will you =
help us raise the $34,000 we still need by making a tax-deductible donation=
 today?
