It's bad enough that advertising has permeated so many areas of our lives -=
infecting not just every type of media, but more and more public space. Ev=
en more alarming is the destructive effect that advertising has on media it=
self, from "advertorials" masquerading as news, to the power that corporati=
ons have over what gets published or broadcast when news outlets rely on ad=
s for so much of their budget.
Truthout is different - a break from this depressing trend and an island of=
independent thought in a sea of ads. But there's only one reason we're fre=
e from corporate influence: the support of readers like you. That support i=
s urgently needed: We must raise over $38,000 in the next few days, and so =
far our current fundraising drive is going slowly.
