t r u t h o u t | Along with the drug war, the war on terror and the war on=
crime, an insidious, often-invisible battle has been building steam.
It's a war on youth. As Truthout board member Henry Giroux writes, "That ma=
ny young people have become 'a new class of stateless individuals=E2=80=A6 =
whose identities collapse into the language of debt, survival and disposabi=
lity' appears to have escaped the attention of the mainstream media."
But it hasn't escaped Truthout's attention. We've reported on skyrocketing =
student debt, the school-to-prison pipeline and the violence inflicted on y=
oung children through maternal incarceration. We've shed light on persisten=
t joblessness and looked at what the shrinking welfare state will mean for =
future generations.=20
In other words - we feel it's our journalistic duty to help ensure that tho=
se generations have a future, through exposing the forces pitted against th=
em and providing insights into new ways of existing as a society. We are co=
mmitted to doubling down and continuing this fight in 2014 - but we literal=
