t r u t h o u t | So, yeah, this is what passes for good news these days: Republican House Budget Committee chairman Paul "I Coulda Been A Contendah" Ryan and Senator Patty "Please Don't Make Me Actually Be A Democrat" Murray finished hammering out a budget deal on Tuesday.

Included in the details are yet another screwing of federal employees, and no more unemployment benefits for 1.3 million people just in time for Christmas. The "Defense" Department will get its metric ton of flesh, and the sequester will remain largely intact.

But but but but but it was bipartisan, it was the "responsible" thing to do, and because they managed to avoid gutting Social Security and Medicare, we should throw them a parade or something.

Whoop de freakin' doo.

"All labor has worth," said Martin Luther King, Jr., in one of the last speeches he ever gave. "It is a crime for people to live in this rich nation and receive starvation wages. Now our struggle is for genuine equality, which means economic equality. If we are going to get equality, if we are going to get adequate wages, we are going to have to struggle for it."

Economic equality is indeed the struggle of our age, and without fear or favor, Truthout intends to bring that struggle to the doorstep of every breathing person in America. Please help us do so by making a tax-deductible donation today. Each and every one of us has skin in this fight.
