ly in-depth, original investigative reporting?
There are some who believe that making journalism freely available devalues=
it. Truthout disagrees.
Why do we believe it's important that our stories are freely available and =
not hidden behind a paywall? Because everyone deserves to be able to read t=
he truth - so we ensure that anyone who can see our site via a computer or =
cellphone gets to read our stories free of charge.
And why don't we accept advertising? Because the constant desire to deliver=
the most pageviews - and thus drive up the value of ad space - can have a =
negative effect on the quality of journalism a website publishes. And becau=
se as the saying goes, he who pays the piper calls the tune: The people who=
place ads have a habit of trying to influence what gets published.
We do all this because we know we can rely on our readers to keep us going =
