t r u t h o u t | We as a nation are about to watch several weeks of what Washington does best when it deals with our budget and finances: Kabuki-style politics.
With an apology to real Kabuki theater, the players in Washington will posture and play their allotted roles with a script that makes sure the power structure protects federal subsidies for the rich while taking away help for the poor and, increasingly, our beleaguered middle class. As an investigative reporter who specializes in federal bureaucracy, I have seen the dance of the status quo go on for decades.
Most of the media also does their dance on queue - the federal government budget Kabuki is very predictable and many of the media are already putting on their standard stage makeup.
Truthout refuses to do the dance. Our reporters and commentators have not bought into this game. They work hard to pull off the masks of those who claim that they are not bought by the government contractors and the corporate elite who want to protect their profits.
