Recently, PBS cut off funding for a documentary exploring the influence of the Koch brothers in Wisconsin politics and union busting. In addition, a PBS affiliate in New York took the unprecedented step of offering David Koch an opportunity to respond to another critical documentary. You see, Koch sat on the board of said affiliate, and was reportedly considering a seven-figure contribution to the station.
Meanwhile, the New York Times is reportedly considering letting advertisers sponsor more stories on its website, further blurring the line between real news and "advertorials."
So here's your choice. At a time when most media are increasingly making news decisions based on keeping corporate sponsors and advertisers happy, there are few reliable independent news outlets. Truthout and BuzzFlash are different: We don't bend to pressure from big business or billionaires.
