t r u t h o u t | Like so many residents of the United States, I'm an immig=
rant - but a very fortunate one.
As a white man from England, I'm privileged: I've never been pulled over wh=
ile driving because I "look like an immigrant." I'm lucky enough to work fo=
r an organization I'm proud of, rather than being exploited for low-wage la=
bor by unscrupulous bosses who know I can't risk going to the authorities. =
And I've never been detained and threatened with deportation.
But the treatment of some immigrants - and even some who are merely mistake=
n for the undocumented - is an ongoing national tragedy. Just this morning,=
here in Chicago, a dozen protesters were arrested for blocking traffic to =
call for an end to the deportation of undocumented immigrants.
