t r u t h o u t | I am having trouble summoning pity for the battered "mainstream" news media as they sit in high dudgeon over the government's treatment of journalism and the First Amendment. For the luvva crumbcake, where have these people been?
This spying, surveillance and criminalization of dissent has been ongoing for more than 10 years, not just against journalists, but against the American people as a whole. And the "mainstream" media is just now getting concerned?
It's as if they just discovered that water is wet because someone finally pushed them into the pool. But we in the independent media world have been in that pool, swimming against the currents of corrupting power, for years - without the protection of well-paid attorneys to help keep us out of jail.
Fact: a day has not gone by in those last ten years that has not involved Truthout shouting at the top of its lungs about these issues of press access and freedom, as well as others that the "mainstream" news media pushed aside. *That is what we are here for, and we need your help to do it.*
