t r u t h o u t | Nearly 13 years after launching BuzzFlash (now a vital pa=
rt of Truthout) I understand how easy it is to be dismayed by the state of =
American politics.
We summon our better angels, only to have them dismissed as na=C3=AFve mess=
engers of caring, concern and creativity. The phrase "let's be realistic" i=
s perhaps the most condescending dismissal by people too selfish or craven =
to implement change for the common good.
That is why hope is an essential element of our waking, and gives power to =
our dreams. It summons us to our greatest promise.
At Truthout and BuzzFlash, thanks to your support, hope is given words, ins=
ights, analysis, and the tools for change.
Achieving hope is not accomplished by becoming numb and voiceless. It does =
not arrive on a wing and a prayer. It comes from the hard work of ensuring =
accountability and providing positive alternatives to the status quo.

e are not dependent upon the corporations who do so much to ravage our worl=
