t r u t h o u t | German sociologist Max Weber once said, "Politics is a strong and slow boring of hard boards. It takes passion and perspective." The sentiment has never been more true than it is today.
Our leaders champion equal rights by evoking Stonewall during our most important civic event, yet hold fast to so many of the subterranean ideals of the Bush administration. We herald the strength and service of women in government, even as women's rights are rolled back in state after state. We mourn the slaughter of innocents, yet lack the courage to ban the implements of their slaughter at home and abroad.
And yet... we are more than what we once were. That strong and slow boring of hard boards, that passion and perspective, has yielded true and genuine results, despite the best efforts of those who work in dark corners with dark money to dark purpose. That has happened because of you, because all of us together have taken on the solemn and often sorrowful task of boring through the hard boards before us.
