t r u t h o u t | "Why should I contribute to Truthout?" That's the question someone who reads several progressive publications online asked me the other day.
Over the years, the number of progressive sites on the Internet has grown - and most readers can't financially support them all. But few of those publications shun advertising and its inevitable, if tacit, influence over editorial decisions. Truthout is in that vital minority: We're funded primarily by readers like you - but that means we need your ongoing support to survive.
Being sustained by readers means Truthout and BuzzFlash are free to challenge the status quo without constraint. It also allows Truthout the opportunity to offer more than critiques of an avaricious political system and unjust social order. Truthout offers the possibility of real hope in everyday life, the hope that turns citizens from passive onlookers into agents of change.
