t r u t h o u t | In another bleak and confusing era, the great poet W.H. Auden sought out "an affirming flame." At the beginning of WW II - in perhaps his most famous poem, "September 1, 1939" - he declared, "All I have is a voice/To undo the folded lie."
*I like to think that Truthout is "an affirming flame" for our time, when so much of the corporate "news" is formulated to achieve what Noam Chomsky calls the "manufactured consent" of the populace.

It is not easy to "unfold lies." They are stubborn, and are deeply ingrained through constant repetition by outlets such as FOX. But that is our mission at Truthout and BuzzFlash, and has been for a decade.
The same corporate elites who pull the strings of government own the majority of the media, so it is a formidable task.
