Hi folks,
I made a second, brief but effective, pass at the database of bugs and
feature requests, attempting to add more information that could answer the
"what are the top five problems" question.
The database now includes the following levels of Severity, with the following
counts in each category:
Bug, Major 1
Bug, Medium 8
Bug, Minor 14
Feature Request 19
Quibble 15
Training Issue 4
Classifying a bug as Medium or Minor is, of course, a subjective judgement call.
The disposition of most bugs is probably "fix in 1.1 or 2.0" and compensate with
training/release notes.
These are the overall problems now in each Severity class:
- Bug, Major
just one of these:
- Unix clipboard doesn't work. Generates a TCL error.
- Bug, Medium
the big problem...
- Searching inadequacies account for 4 records (50%)
with other problems some people say need work...
- Printing of child windows (1 record)
- mac-to-PC Carriage-Return/LineFeed hosage (1 record)
- Arrow keys in the HistoryEntries field on the PC (1)
- Housecalls equipment field is really too small.
- Bug, Minor
- documentation needs elaboration (2 records)
- Searching with multiple word ORs is order-dependent
- Dismiss button crashes macs
- multi-column sorting of results set records
- printing / clipboard formatting of output needs help
- mac results sets overlapping fields
- frozen field date constraints
- behavior of close button
- main window doesn't give you a clue that child window data exists
- timestamping of log closure in description field doesn't happen
- Exit menu / History button / close button debate
- scroll bar and field width in History doesn't work right
Some minor bugs are probably quibbles. Some of the major and medium bugs are
probably unsolvable. I assume that when the group meets to look this over,
we'll assign statements of resolvability to each of these, e.g., "Not in Release
1", "Unfixable", "Wait for 5.2 Macintosh Client", etc.
The database records are viewable in Filemaker 3 over TPCIP from the host
"helpdesk22" or "18.81.0.153".
