Scopus 1.0b2 Post-Testing Meeting
June 19, 1996

Attending: Allen, Arnett, Endriga, Fermann, M.Hill, Lee,
            Oh, Rosen, Roy, Sousa, Wade

Thanks to everyone for testing and sending in comments. Also, thanks to
Peter and Lynne for compressing the feedback and to Bryn, Misha and Carla
for capturing the notes.

The process of the meeting was to list items from the staff and student
testing of release 1.0b2.

Meeting summary:
- 50 items were listed and categorized as follows:

   Legend:

   C1 - critical for day 1
Cx - critical issue, e.g. C2 is issue for a 2.0 release, etc.
   NC - non-critical issue
R - research needed to investigate problem
   T - training need identified
F - simple fix, should be in release 1.0
   X - has been fixed

I have organized the items we listed into the categories we identified. I
left the item numbers, however, there is no significance to the item number
order in each category. When the 1.0b3 release notes are completed, I hope
we can associate the release notes with a corresponding item number in the
following task list.

I consider this the active list we are working on for development and
deployment. This list will change as testing continues and development
finds new items to be added. However, we should not be working on items
that are not on this list or are not added to the list.

It was noted during the meeting that more items could have been documented.
These items would have been for a post 1.0 release and will need to be
captured at a later date.

Since the meeting on June 19, all the critical (see comment on item 5) and
most of the "easy fix" items have been completed or have gone through
significant improvement.

Testing observation notes: Based on some comments from the testers, it
would appear that in the future, we should spend more time on setting
expectations prior to testing. For example, explaining what items to focus
testing, what is still being developed, and training hints would have
lessened the frustration.

Task List - last updated 6/19/96
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

C1 - CRITICAL ITEMS - NEED RESOLUTION PRIOR TO 1.0 RELEASE

1. Record locking broken
a - not cleared (stays locked)
b - can't read (while record is locked)
c - can update records even when locked

3. Can't reset call category
     - mistake before save
     - mistake after save
     - 1 client, multiple housecalls

*When a housecall log needs to go back into the Helpdesk queue the
procedure is to close Housecall child, and then you will be able to
      change the call category.

Need to be sure the closed Housecall child is still accessible, and
that we could change the log back into Housecall again.

5. History field not searchable

     *Solution to this is necessary.

[ Wade comment - The history field is actually searchable, it is just
not indexed and thus may take some time to search. We need to load
the full set of Filemaker data to determine if this method of
searching has reasonable performance. An unresolved issue is how
to search without the current case sensitive restriction. ]

18. If record locked by someone, others can't view (not even read only)
        [see 1b]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

F - EASY FIX - WILL BE DONE FOR FIRST RELEASE

4. profile find failure inserts %

*This is a result of Terri's debugging setup. It is a simple fix. He
      will fix it.

6. "new" doesn't say about to lose data

     *Pop-up box needed. Easy fix.

8. Closing/clearing unmodified or just saved record asks "ok to
       discard"

     Easy to fix.

50. "close log" should put time/date/who in history

13. MIT status as filled by lookup is actually title

     *Warehouse issue; will be fixed

14. s/w version # (5.x, 6.x, 7.x) should include sub-version (e.g. Word
        6.0 vs. 6.0.1)

     *Version lists will be updated.

29. find -> pops up window; doubleclick on log number and find window
       disappears

31. frozen logs - need frozen date? (if status is frozen, freeze until
       must have a date)

37. column width in result sets - too large

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

R - NEEDS RESERACH, BASED ON RESULTS MAY BE CANDIDATE FOR RELEASE. UNLESS
NOTED , THESE ITEMS WOULD BE IN A 2.0 OR LATER RELEASE

10. On find, can't find partial words, case sensitive, must be
          verbatim (e.g. summary field)

*Need training on how to find partial words.
*Research needs to go into case sensitivity

11. callback history field non-existant

*Research needed into why this disappeared. [harold?]
*It was pointed out that most students feel this is critical

12. OS doesn't allow other than what's there

*This list will no longer be constrained. Items not in picklist will
      now be allowed.
*If no s/w list is associated, then you get default list.

*Final decision will be deferred until Lynne can talk to Terri and
      find out what implications are.

15. can't print log; can't copy info to clipoard (for example, to send
email); can't copy entire log (e.g. current "Copy Log Text" script
        doesn't exist)

*Need to see why can't print log. Thought it was ok from the PC.

16. close locks log; can't figure out how to look at/update closed logs

46. takes really long time to load (fast after load!)

48. status should default to unseen

49. how to make timestamp in history (we could make the design better)

2. history missing in printing form

*Research needed to find out what's causing this.

7. auto inserted unsupported s/w category value -> invalid data error

*Fucntional spec needs to be investigated - Alicia will do.
*Software: Other [constrained field] / Software Category: [picklist]

36. field names - why did they change? (e.g. lookup/profile find,
     log#/log ID)

34. need lmfcb, etc. buttons (create contact history field)

42. too many required fields

24. pop-ups (on Unix) need dismiss buttons

25. can't query on "open by", "modified by" or "closed by"

33. can't open multiple records

32. screen
     - red on grey doesn't work well (user customization, training)
     - tab order erratic (easy to fix)
     - too big; fills screen
     - sec. client info takes too much space

38. functionality of "new" button

(needs better defaults, what are these?)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

R/C2 - RESEARCH - BASED ON RESULTS, POSSIBLE RELEASE 2.0 CANDIDATE

20. suppport for lower resolution & super VGA (don't get scollbars)

(User can change their preference for screen size, colors)

23. needs script equiv. to "find pending"

17. "next step" field missing

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

T - TRANING ISSUE

47. "I want hot keys"

(there are hot keys for buttons)

44. confusion about "hits" box (how many logs does this person have
open - requires use of Profile Find)

45. confusion about "touched" box

40. profile find: "-" in phone #'s

41. save s.b. automatic (can't be done)

49. how to make timestamp in history

10. On find, can't find partial words, case sensitive, must be
     verbatim (e.g. summary field)

*Need training on how to find partial words.

38. functionality of "new" button

(when to use it, what it does)

10. On find, can't find partial words, case sensitive, must be
          verbatim (e.g. summary field)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
TAKEN OFF THE BOARD, EITHER ALREADY FIXED OR DETERMINED NOT AN ISSUE

39. extraneous discard msgs

9. clear profile doesn't clear MIT status

     It's been done.

35. pick lists are case sensitive

26. housecall child - "save" gives op_get_field_update error (MIT log
       id)

27. supported/unsupported flags - when enter version for unsupported
       product, flag disappears

28. housecall child - cred. card expiration date when entered as 6/97
gives error: "not valid month" & can't save

21. "taken by" - often need to insert name not on picklist

22. "taken by' list in no particular order

43. IP addr field unnecessary

30. can't enter any dept in department field

19. have to point w/ mouse for picklist

(need to check with Scopus on future improvement)
