Scopus Implementation
Date: May 31,1996

Working On Milestone:

- Configuration and implementation is progressing, next milestone is
completion of first implementation on June 7.

Accomplishments:

- Completed design specification using best-effort principles
- Completed first draft of table creation scripts for lookup,
   log and data warehouse tables.
- Began customization of the Main Help screen, including a Message of
the Day and screen design changes (history field).
- Generated search and maintenance screens for lookup tables
- Completed initial load of warehouse data into Scopus user table
- Benchmarked clients on Windows 3.1, Windows 95, and Macintosh
- Resolved issue with metadata (see last weeks issues), new problem
   with version of metadata arose.

Goals:

- Complete functionality required to begin testing week June 7
- Complete requisition for production machine
- Continue refining data population for lookup tables, new department
   table and warehouse feed.
- Migrate a sub set of Filemaker Help Desk data
- Data Administration to help move Scopus data model to Silverrun

Issues:

- Macintosh performance reduced from 10 minute startup to 4 minutes.
Issue is still open to determine if this is the expected behavior.

- Metadata version control not working as advertised. Initial problem
of metadata load resolved, need operating and installation
instructions since this was not properly supplied by Scopus.

Concerns:

- As development progresses, we need to ensure that the functional
specification and the design specification are updated to reflect
   the product being built.

- Need to understand how Scopus could be used for other business
customers such that account administration, windows and functions,
data attributes, access control are taken into consideration if more
than one business will be on a shared machine. If multiple machines
are to be used, we need to understand the impact to obtain additional
   TeamServer licenses

- 17" screen design may pose problems when non Help Desk personnel
use the Help Desk system (e.g. transmission, mainframe, etc.).

- Oracle 7.1.4 (deployed on development machine) will not be supported
by Oracle after this year. Thus before year is out, development
machine needs to be upgraded. Scopus not yet certified on Oracle
7.3. Issue of what database version we should use for production.
Options are 7.1.4 or 7.2.2.3 with patch.

- There are bugs in the Scopus tools, e.g. generating windows,
generating new user accounts, documentation of loading of
meta data. Work arounds have been found, but, these
work arounds need to be documented.
