Information about BOMs needed

I am doing my graduation project titled 'Integration of ERP and PDM
systems in CORBA'. For this, I need some concrete information about Bill
of Materials, how they are used in real systems. My qustions are:
- Can you supply me an example of a Bill of Material or Product
Structure (incl. versions, variations)
- How does the usage of a BoM differ from PDM and ERP systems
- What about views? Are both 'as designed' and 'as built' views simply a
selection of the bill of material. Or, s[eaking in object terms, can I
suppose that the first is more a class structure and the latter is an
instance of it?
I have collected tons of papers, including the white papers from SAP
(business objects, BAPI's). But unfortunately I miss the detailed,
technical information about BOMs, in order to specify my integration
architecture (i.e. lifecycle and semantic control, shared objects, ...)
Not sure whether this is the proper newsgroup, I hope someone can
provide me the information or links on the internet (which I have
searched for days).
