two ps-abap-ers in need of help

We're implementing a large SAP R/3 PS MM HR system and are asked to write
several ABAPs within PS.
Two main questions are rising:
1. How to cope with the logical database PSJ within PS to retrieve data in
ABAP ?
2. In searching through PS, we found out that mostly structures are used in
stead of tables, commonly used in HR.
How to cope with these structures wih respect to retrieving data in ABAP's ?
