To: sapr3-soft@MIT.EDU Date: 3 Jan 2000 07:51:50 -0600 From: "John P Lewis" <john.lewis9@virgin.net>(by way of SAP Moderator <sap-request@realtimeusa.com>) Message-Id: <84q9hm$2ct@nexus.netconcepts.com> We moved from 3.1H at LCP 30 to 4.5B with LCP 03 and hotpackage 03 in September this year. The whole process took nearly 6 months from the receipt of the First Customer Shipment discs due to other developments taking place in our development cycle at the same time. Since then we applied LCPs up to 11 and Hotpackages up to 10 in early December. The main problems from my perspective in HR Support and Development were 1. The removal of the "echo session" facility in SM04 - was very useful for helping users over the phone. 2. The changes to ABAP syntax in the HR logical database (PNP) where most of the customer written reports needed changing. 3. The provision of links on practically every menu on every screen to many other screens that we do not want our users to use. 4. PM01 always seems to generate screens in German even though the users is logged on in English. An OSS note exists now to fix this. The good things : 1. The modification assistant makes resolving the SPAU and SPDD lists easier. The subsequent LCPs and HPs were resolved in less than a day. 2. The new GUI is far better and has the ability to stop a long running transaction or report by right clicking on the taskbar button (this might have been available in 3.1H but I had not seen it). 3. The debugger is easier to use than before. Personally speaking I doubt that there are many good consultants out there who have actually done the upgrade at this time - most people I have spoken to expect to go direct to 4.6 during 2000. Cheers John
