[4445] in sapr3-soft
basis problem with sap r3 4.5b.....

I'm new to this business, so forgive me for asking questions of this type.
My employer has provided SAP R3 4.5b setup disks, and has asked me to set
up a sandbox system for myself and a few other consultants to play with.
I have proceeded as follows:
1. installed sql 7 and service pack 1 - installation successful, and
service starts upon windows startup.
2. installed all prerequisites per the installation guidelines - successful
3. installed sap software, with a few warnings, but no errors.
upon boot, the saposcol service is started automatically, but I have the
SAPDEV_00 service set to manual (as advised by another consultant) which I
start manually upon each reboot.
I then enter the SAP R3 management console, and start the SAP instance
(also, as advised)
this machine is running on cablemodem, and I have a permanent IP
address....so I have all of the items configured to that IP.....
now when I try to start the SAPGUI for this server, it only makes it to
about 66% (guessing from the progress bar upon sapgui startup)
Does anybody have any suggestions about what I may be doing wrong??
I've checked all of my event logs, and get no events...I'm at a loss
