Changing CO currency on live system ?

Does anyone know if it is possible to change the controlling area currency
after the system has been live ? We need to re-arrange the reporting
currency for a possible take-over from a foreign company.
For example, is it possible to archive off the transactions, change the
COAr currency & then load the transactions back ? What are the implications
for existing transaction data ?
If anyone has done this or knows of how it might be done or could point me
to any useful resources, PLEASE let me know.
We are using FI/CO/MM/PP/SD on version 3.0f.
