where can I get manuals?

I'm attending some courses at SAP and I realize that, at least in
Italy, there is a complete lack of written documentation. No manuals,
no books on each module, we just got the help.
Talking with a SAP trainer, he said the lack of documentation is for
on purpose so customers must rely entirely on consultants.
I saw some guides written in 1995, called "description of the system
R/3" - "accounting" for example, but they are no longer available.
Does anyone know any module specific manual to be used as reference
for implementing and customizing?
