One of the most frequently aksed questions I hear is how to implement
SAP quickly and efficiently. Below is my two cents worth.
How do I maximize the chances of implementation success?
**There are as many answers to this question as questions themselves.
Obtaining success quickly in one of the many phases is critical. There
will be a lot of critics and people who do not want to change from their
current system. Because of this "Change Management" is a must. If you
create a success story quickly, it will add credibility and cooperation
to the remaining project life. Break up the implementation process into
various phases. After a certain length of time a project ceases being a
project. Rather it becomes a way of life. Cutoff dates must be adhered
to. The old 80/20 rule will certainly apply to your projects. Taking 80%
of your time on 20% of the business process. So try not to dwell on the
20%, rather stick to the cutoff dates and the 80% majority. Encompassed
with the 80/20 rule and managing change is the re-engineering phase of
the project. Don't reinvent the wheel. Instead, take an implement and
tune approach using existing best practices from SAP. You would not be
implementing SAP if you wanted it to look exactly the same as your old
system.
