Joe,

The Variant Configurator is a tool used in Make-to-Order manufacturing
environment when you manufature material that can be sold in a large
number of variants.
Using VC can be useful from the following aspects;

Due to large number of variations you would probably need a quite large
material master, BOM, routings and PRTs. With VC it is possible to use a
master BOM, routing and only one-or a few- configurable materials.Your
BOM, routing PRT selection is dynamic-based on the configuration in the
Sales Order and of course the characteristics you define. It is possible
to influence Pricing and transfer of requirement as well.
DO not try to use it environment other that MTO.

If you need more info -get back to me.
