I do not see th benefit of seprating the application servers from
the main database over different geographical locations since the
system can not operate without the central database. Also from a
performance point of view; the best is to have application servers
and the central database comunicxating over a high speed low delay
communication chanel.

My questionis the following :

Is it possible to use the ORACLE synchronous or assynchronoys
replication mechanism to maintain a remote ( at a different site)
copy of the central database. This would be needed for disaster
recovery (hot stand by) AND also possibly to split users over two
systems to improve the performance.
Please let me know your thought in this are, is it possible with off
the shelf produvts ? What version or ORACLE and SAP would be
required (with HP/UX ). Has this been implmented by anypne ?

Guidance greatly appreciated.
Best Regards
Peter
